Planning dates in college can be tough for one main reason: money. However, I’ve come up with a few great ideas to make your dates memorable without breaking the budget.
Take a Walk
Living on a college campus, I love to take walks because there is always stuff going on and friends you might end up running into. It is a great way to spend time with your S.O. in a happy and healthy atmosphere.
Go to the Park
The University of Idaho has a beautiful arboretum on campus that is the perfect spot to have picnics, play frisbee, or just relax.
My boyfriend and I love to climb up this hill on campus below one of the water towers and look at the stars. It gives a great view of the town but still allows for the stars to be bright and visible.
Walk Around the Saturday Market/Farmers Market
Even if you don’t buy anything, it is still fun to walk around and look at all the booths and products being sold.
This one might not sound like a “date” but my boyfriend and I ended up having a lot of fun running stairs on campus, we are both competitive so it was like a race. This was a great excuse to get some exercise in while spending time together.
Find Common Interests
Recently, my boyfriend and I decided to download Poker Stars on our laptops and play poker. Neither of us were very good, but it was a fun thing to do on a night in.
We also learned we both LOVE mini golf. I took him to a putt putt course in Sun Valley which was surprisingly inexpensive. It was a super close game and he ended up winning on the last hole. We enjoyed it so much that when we went to Boise a few days later, we went to a different putt putt place and played for hours. I ended up winning this time. 😉
Since we didn’t cook much while we were at college, it was fun for us to make dinner together. We found a recipe online, went to the store, and attempted to make the meal in his fraternity’s kitchen which lacked proper cookware, making it difficult but more memorable.
Another time we honestly just made a box of PastaRoni and ate it on paper plates while listening to the Guardians of the Galaxy Playlist.
Visit Local Spots
We once planned a date where we visited a historical house in our small college town. It was an old Victorian building that had a lot of cool history — including a scratch on one of the tables from when the original owners had a pet bear.
Whether it’s camping, ice skating, snowshoeing, hiking or swimming, being outdoors will always make for a memorable time with your S.O.
Dating doesn’t have to be expensive, sometimes the cheapest dates are the most memorable. I hope these ideas give you some inspiration and lead to a lovely date night with your S.O.
